following the install handbook, i am here
6.1 Installing a DHCP client

as per the instructions, i have just installed dhcpcd, at the end of which i got these messages
Code:
>>> Installing (1 of 1) net-misc/dhcpcd-6.9.0::gentoo
!!! Unable to set SELinux security labels
 *
 * If you activate the lookup-hostname hook to look up your hostname
 * using the dns, you need to install net-dns/bind-tools.

 * Messages for package net-misc/dhcpcd-6.9.0:

 *
 * If you activate the lookup-hostname hook to look up your hostname
 * using the dns, you need to install net-dns/bind-tools.
>>> Auto-cleaning packages...

>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.
 * waiting for lock on /var/db/.pkg.portage_lockfile ...                                                                                                                     [ ok ]

 * GNU info directory index is up-to-date.

 * IMPORTANT: 1 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news read to view new items.

so i read the news
Code:
# eselect news read

  Title                     Some dhcpcd hooks are now examples
  Author                    William Hubbs <williamh@gentoo.org>
  Posted                    2016-01-08
  Revision                  2

In dhcpcd-6.10.0, the following hooks are no longer installed in
/lib/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-hooks by default:

10-wpa_supplicant
15-timezone
29-lookup-hostname

These are now installed in /usr/share/dhcpcd/hooks, which is an example
directory.

If you were using these hooks before you upgrade to 6.10.0, you will
need to copy them back to the /lib/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-hooks directory after the
upgrade.

which is what the install handbook says too.

but i don't have that directory

Code:
# ls -lha  /usr/share/dhcpcd/
ls: cannot access /usr/share/dhcpcd/: No such file or directory

josephg ... that would be as =net-misc/dhcpcd-6.10.0 is keyworded ~arch, whereas you are probably using stable and so have 6.9.0

Code:
# eshowkw net-misc/dhcpcd
Keywords for net-misc/dhcpcd:
         |                                 | u   |
         | a a   a         n   p r     s   | n   |
         | l m   r h i m m i   p i s   p   | u s | r

         | a 4 m 4 a 4 k s 2 c 4 v 0 h c 6 | d t | o
---------+---------------------------------+-----+-------
[I]6.9.0 | + + + ~ + + o ~ o + + o ~ ~ + + | o 0 | gentoo

josephg,

You have
Code:
>>> Installing (1 of 1) net-misc/dhcpcd-6.9.0::gentoo
!!! Unable to set SELinux security labels
as khayyam suggests.

We have already confirmed that you have the wrong profile set. That's causing the SELinux errors.

-- edit --

You don't have ekwshow as its not installed. khayyam was showing how net-misc/dhcpcd is keyworded on different archetectures.

josephg ... yes, but you'll get a different version dependent on ACCEPT_KEYWORD.

Code:
# portageq envvar ACCEPT_KEYWORDS
x86
#  ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -pq dhcpcd
[ebuild   U ] net-misc/dhcpcd-6.10.0 [6.9.0]

eshowkw is provided by app-portage/gentoolkit, which you don't have. I was showing you the keywords for that package as the news item refers to 6.10.0, the ~arch package ... so, you don't have that directory because you don't have that package.

best ... khay
