Hi,

I am on company laptop (I was allowed to switch OS), which however has passworded BIOS and I believe that switching of graphic card is enabled. Therefore I can't easily test if disabling helps.

The laptop doesn't seem to be able to use any other screen that the built-in one. When I connect it to docking station, other screen isn't recognized, running xrand -q produces this no matter if I have other screen connected or not.

Code:
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1600 x 900, maximum 32767 x 32767
LVDS1 connected primary 1600x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 193mm
   1600x900      60.22*+  50.01
   1024x768      60.00
   800x600       60.32    56.25
   640x480       59.94
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

I tried both nvidia noveau and proprietary drivers, but I believe none of them loads. According to Xorg.log the intel card is being used. I have absolutely no idea how to fix this. I tried compiling all possible drivers and nothing helped.

P.S. can I break stuff if I just compile every single driver as module just to make sure I have all for my hardware?

Hi,

I have W530, and in BIOS you can switch between optimus discrete (only nvidia card is on) and dedicated (I think, witch is only intel card).

Probably you have optimus turned on be default so you can try proprietary nvidia optimus or bumblebee

you can also try nouveau with optimus
(since kernel-4.4 reclocking with keppler card is improved, thus performance is/should be better)

I never tried bumblebee, so no advice here.
Native proprietary nvidia drivers and optimus never worked for me correctly, so I gave up quite quickly (it was 2014, maybe things working now  )

I got this fixed by disabling optimus in BIOS, now I just had to install nvidia drivers and it works. Using intel graphics doesn't seem to allow for other screens.
