Hello,

First time post really hope I can get some help!!

We have a Gentoo VM on Hyper-v with the following config:

(chroot) livecd linux # uname -a
Linux livecd 3.18.9-gentoo #1 SMP Thu Apr 2 06:43:49 UTC 2015 x86_64 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5530 @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

As you can see we are in a chrooted environment and need to disable Libata as the server will not boot and get's stuck on loading modules. Always after Sata Libata!!!

Disk layout:

(chroot) livecd linux # df
df: ‘/sys/kernel/config’: No such file or directory
df: ‘/sys/fs/cgroup’: No such file or directory
df: ‘/sys/fs/cgroup/openrc’: No such file or directory
df: ‘/sys/fs/cgroup/cpuset’: No such file or directory
df: ‘/sys/fs/cgroup/cpuacct’: No such file or directory
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
rootfs 40101232 19753996 18310196 52% /
udev 10240 4 10236 1% /dev
/dev/sda3 40101232 19753996 18310196 52% /
tmpfs 40101232 19753996 18310196 52% /run
shm 10240 4 10236 1% /dev/shm
/dev/sda1 132206 45217 80163 37% /boot

When I go into /usr/src/linux and try to edit the kernel config via the following command:

genkernel --menuconfig all

I get presented with the following:

(chroot) livecd linux # genkernel --menuconfig all

*
* Please do *not* report compilation failures as genkernel bugs!

Any advise would be great and very helpful.

Many Thanks

fanturex,

Welcome to Gentoo
Code:
Linux livecd 3.18.9-gentoo #1 SMP Thu Apr 2 06:43:49 UTC 2015

Throw that liveCD away. Its very old.

Start with System Rescue CD.
It has all the bits you need to install Gentoo just following the handbook. There is even an optional GUI.
