I have been installing Gentoo as is said in the handbook and after running make && make install I get errors, the first time I ran it it meant on for about an hour before any errors now it doesn't last more than 30 seconds.

Picture of errors: http://i.imgur.com/8Fi2C7G.jpg (Sorry for bad quality)

Any help would be great!

It's compiling example code in the documentation directory... that doesn't make any sense.

How did you configure this kernel?

undefined reference to __stack_chk_fail means you are building with -fstack-protector linking against a non-enabled -fstack-protector library.

Have you set an hardened profile?

What is the output of?
Code:

sudo eselect profile show

Ah... as Ant P. has pointed out. It's building Documentation/.

You may have set 'Kernel Hacking -> Build targets in Documentation/ tree'. Unset it.
