Hi everyone, im new in gentoo, its the first time that i install it, the install was fine, but i have a small problem, after install nvidia drivers for my gtx 660 ti, i try "modprobe nvidia" and i got the error: "modprobe error couldt not insert nvidia" i did try rebuilding kernel and rebuilding module but i get the same error, its strange because now i install the nouveau driver and all its OK, but with nvidia driver not.

Thanks in advance.

Did you configure your kernel properly for nvidia? Without KMS and framebuffer?

I didnt configure nothing in the kernel, the kernel is generated with genkernel all.

Try to remember Gentoo is DIY Linux and you are the installer. ;)

Installing nvidia proprietary drivers require a few settings in kernel configuration as Buffoon have mentioned. Don't worry, you will not have to configure entire kernel from scratch. If you use genkernel --menuconfig all command you will get auto-configured kernel with possibility to make additional changes through menuconfig. Just follow the instructions from the link that Buffoon gave in his last post. There is not much to set.

I see on nVidia website that your card requires version 361.28 of the drivers. Be sure to install that version.

EDIT: I have updated the drivers version number, as Buffoon correctly spotted that I have provided older version of the drivers

Oops, you are correct. I made a search for "6 Series" instead of directly for 660 Ti.
