I edited my config to add acpi and cpu modules. When I rebooted with the new kernel, the font size changed in console and plasma/kde.

Trying to figure out why?

To try and further describe, during the boot process, gentoo, both in the live cd and in my first kernel, the font size would go from a large font to small. the small font was easy on the eyes and looked 'normal" in kde. Now the font never resizes during the boot and when in kde it looks like 640X480.

Any ideas appreciated on how to get it back to "normal".

It had to be a kernel config setting because rebooting with my old kernel has the desired font behavior

looks like an issue with framebuffer

regarding your desctop environment? have you set up correctly your gpu + useflags + make.conf for gpu and htose relevant packages like mesa / xorg-server (+ e.g. nvidia-drivers ...)

e.g.nvidia drivers needs special settings which can be found e.g. on the gentoo wiki / gentoo handbook
