Hi,

I have a Dell XPS 13 2015, I followed the instructions on https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Dell_XPS_13_9343 to get Gentoo installed on my laptop. But I am stuck at getting the wireless card to work.

According to the instruction, I should NOT compile these modules into the kernel:

- Generic IEEE 802.11 Networking Stack (mac80211)
- Broadcom 43xx wireless support (mac80211 stack)
- Sonics Silicon Backplane support
- BCMA support

Also the broadcom-sta package would warning me if I have these modules enabled in my kernel configuration.

However, I found out that without "Sonics Silicon Backplane support" support, I won't be able to boot the system. I got kernel panic at boot.

Any idea/suggestion?

Thanks,
David

See the wiki just as recommendations. There may be errors in it or the packages have changed or how they interact.

Your hardware looks quite new, the only suggestion is to go with the newest gentoo sources, afaik 4.4.4 gentoo sources.

Build in everything needed to boot the box, anything else usually go as module. Som stuff needs to be as module some stuff needs to be build in. you will see it anyway. Some packages like google-chrome and a few others give a hint during emerging that these needs some certain kernel options enabled or as module.
