Hi all,

MAC Pro
SATA controller - Samsung

Im using Refind to boot MAC OSX and Gentoo.

The kernel is loaded using refind, but I get the following errors

Cannot open root device /dev/sda5 or unknown block (0,0) error 6
Please append a correct "root=" boot option, here are the available options.
Kernel panic - not synching VFS: Unable ti mount root fs on known-block (0,0)

I'm guessing I have not included support for the the SATA controller which is Samsung, but I can't find anything related to Samsung in device drivers - SATA.

Could someone show me the error of my ways.

thanks
Charles

If I was you I would inline all SCSI low-level drivers, just to make sure that everything will work flawlessly. [Corsair Force GT 120GB (2011)]

thank you, I did'nt realise I needed SCSI disk support.

Quote:
SATA support in Linux is implemented in a layer referred to as libata, which sits below the SCSI subsystem. For this reason, SATA drivers are found in the SCSI driver section of the configuration. Additionally, the system's storage devices will be treated as SCSI devices, which means SCSI disk/cdrom support will also be required. The first SATA hard disk will be named /dev/sda and the first SATA CD/DVD drive will be named /dev/sr0.

Now to get my keyboard working :)
