Hello,

Is it possible to create new slots/subslots, to install different versions of (conflicting) packages?

Anything is possible with enough work in the right place. As far as I know, the ebuild maintainers use the best mechanism they believe is available. If a package is using subslots, it is likely either unable to use a slot or does not make sense to do so. I am not aware of any mechanism for an end user to cause an ebuild to use a slot instead of a subslot. You would need to copy the ebuild to an overlay and modify it. You will likely also need to modify some aspect of the upstream build. Slots can be co-installed, but subslots cannot, so if you have a subslotted package that you want to use a full slot, there is a good chance you will need to patch the upstream code to make it behave correctly. Could you provide an example of a package where you want this?

I was looking for a way to solve package conflicts when I was doing an update @world. So I ran in this idea of solving this by subslotting.

But at this moment the conflicts are solved :)

btw I had problems with versions of perl..
