alexcortes,

I suspect its radeon as that graphics hardware has been around for a few years.

We need the PCI VendorID and DeviceID to be sure and to tell you which firmware you need.

lspic will give you a line like
Code:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G92 [GeForce 9800 GT] (rev a2)

Make a note of the 01:00.0 for your VGA Card
lspci -n will give you lots of numbers.
We need the line starting with 01:00.0 or whatever your VGA card is.
In my case I get
Code:
01:00.0 0300: 10de:0614 (rev a2)

The Vendor and Device IDs are 10de:0614.

alexcortes

That will be Radeon.
Follow the Gentoo Wiki

Until you have the firmware loading properly, make the kernel part of the driver as a module.
If you need the framebuffer console to come up faster, build both the kernel driver and the firmware into the kernel.

Hi,

I have it installed as module but I just boot with radeon.modeset=0 and without the quiet parameter, otherwise end up with a black screen. If I set GRUB_GFXMODE the boot stuck on "Loading Linux..."

Looking on journalctl there are a message about a failed ARUBA firmware.

Any ideia or what may be useful to find out the problem?

Thanks!

You need to install either sys-firmware/radeon-ucode or sys-kernel/linux-firmware

Hum, after many changes on kernel config the ARUBA message gone but still the same situation but with this error:

Code:
[drm: radeon_init [radeon]] *Error* No UMS Support in radeon module!

This error is because you boot with radeon.modeset=0, something you should not normally do, only to fix problems related to firmware loading.

Ok, still persist the black screen but seems a problem with systemd-backlight:

Code:
Mar 28 22:02:19 mobile systemd-backlight[264]: Failed to get backlight or LED device 'backlight:acpi_video0': No such device
Mar 28 22:02:19 mobile systemd[1]: systemd-backlight@backlight:acpi_video0.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Mar 28 22:02:19 mobile systemd[1]: systemd-backlight@backlight:acpi_video0.service: Unit entered failed state.
Mar 28 22:02:19 mobile systemd[1]: systemd-backlight@backlight:acpi_video0.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

dmesg: http://pastebin.com/JVNMF7dr
journalctl: http://pastebin.com/CXiHLSNA
kernel config: http://pastebin.com/68PsBWf3

EDIT: I opened a specific topic for that: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7898626.html#7898626
