So I messed up the MBR / Boot-Partition of my running gentoo system. While fixing it, I thought it might be a good idea to give grub-2 a try. So I checked https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Full/Installation#Installing_GRUB2

Currently I am in a ubuntu live system and did a chroot to get in my gentoo system.

Code:

# emerge -avq sys-boot/grub:2
setlocale: unsupported locale setting
[ebuild  N    ] sys-libs/efivar-0.23
[ebuild  N    ] sys-boot/efibootmgr-0.12
[ebuild   R   ] sys-boot/grub-2.02_beta3-r1  USE="device-mapper fonts multislot nls themes truetype -debug -doc -efiemu -libzfs -mount -sdl -static {-test}" GRUB_PLATFORMS="efi-64* -coreboot -efi-32 -emu -ieee1275 -loongson -multiboot -pc -qemu -qemu-mips -uboot -xen"

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

Gives me:

Code:

realpath: ' ./man3/efi_variable_t.3.bz2': No such file or directory
realpath: /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/efivar-0.23/image//usr/share/info/dir: No such file or directory
 * ERROR: sys-libs/efivar-0.23::gentoo failed:
 *   rm failed!
 *
 * Call stack:
 *   misc-functions.sh, line 603:  Called install_qa_check
 *   misc-functions.sh, line 256:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *      rm -f "${ED}"/usr/share/info/dir{,.gz,.bz2} || die "rm failed!"

Didnt find anything about this error in the internet. Whats going on here?

vlynd ...

from the setlocale error I suspect you haven't run 'env-update && source /etc/profile' subsquent to chrooting.

best ... khay
