hi everybody. having troubles with boot in my new laptop Acer Aspire ES1-331
its a fresh install, my first trying to touch UEFI GPT thing

ok, so parted tells me that about partitioning

Code:
Partition Table: gpt

2097 kB   ext2   grub  bios_grub
315 Mb   fat16  boot  boot, esp
swap whatever
 494 Gb  ext4  rootfs ---

in my BIOS(UEFI) i turned ON UEFI and turned OFF Secure boot
but it is not working with Secure boot either

in some point to install bootloader(GRUB2) i had to switch to a gpt uefi bootable usb with arch, because
i had a problem with efivars/efivarfs with gentoo minimal iso

chrooting like that (if it is important) mount rootfs, mount boot to rootfs/boot
Code:
root #mount -t proc proc /mnt/gentoo/proc
root #mount --rbind /sys /mnt/gentoo/sys
root #mount --rbind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev
root #chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
root #source /etc/profile

i compiled my kernel with genkernel all, in fstab before compiling was
Code:
dev/sda2 /boot vfat noauto,noatime 1 2

later added swap and rootfs
the only thing i changed through menuconfig was <VFAT (Windows-95) fs support> switch to buil-in
MSDOS fs support still as module

what i did about bootloader was basically
Code:
root #echo GRUB_PLATFORMS="efi-64" >> /etc/portage/make.conf
root #emerge --ask sys-boot/grub:2
grub2-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

everything was fine! now i have in my boot partition kernel, initramfs, system.map + EFI and grub directory

honestly i dont even know what to do at that point
should i try efibootmgr? mb this is fault of my kernel misconfiguration?
will be grateful for any help !!

now its just NO BOOTABLE DEVICE

If you have more than 1 disk or if this is only part of the parted -l output please provide parted -l output in full. wgetpaste is available from the preferred sysresccd. last week's gentoo minimal cd did not boot in uefi mode for me. The install media needs to be uefi for a uefi install to succeed.

fat16 is wrong for esp, this partition needs to be fat32.

thank you for your reply. i dont know why thats fat16 not fat32.

well now im so tired of that so i think i will switch to old school legacy mbr setup
it just works...

plus in my insydeH20 bios there is a switch called GPT partition record and i have no idea
either i need this or not but anyways it is even not permitted to change it.

Yes, uefi is great. I threw my grub-loader away and my system starts now directly from uefi. This is faster.
