I was revisiting Gentoo and ran into a roadblock here in the handbook:

"Choose an appropriate kernel source and install it using emerge:

root #emerge --ask sys-kernel/gentoo-sources

This will install the Linux kernel sources in /usr/src/ in which a symbolic link called linux will be pointing to the installed kernel source:"

---------------

This does not create a symlink there.

Am I missing something?

john

You need the useflag "symlink" set. If you do not want it automatically set in the future just:
Code:
USE="symlink" emerge --ask gentoo-sources"

This will create the symlink one time only. The package "app-select/eselect" will give a handy tool for displaying your kernels and setting the symlink.

Thanks Tony!

Will try it again in the morning.
