Hello everyone, i have a question about configuring kernel with UEFI to load without GRUB2. I have configured kernel with CONFIG_CMDLINE="root=/dev/sda4".
Could you please tell me why when I use:
Code:
efibootmgr --create --part 1 --label "Gentoo" --loader '\efi\boot\vmlinuz.efi'

kernel panics:
Code:
kernel panic - not syncing :VFS : unable to mount root fs unknown-block(0,0)

but when i use (with the same kernel):
Code:
efibootmgr --create --part 1 --label "Gentoo" --loader "\efi\boot\vmlinuz.efi" -u "root=/dev/sda4"

kernel loads as it should?

Perhaps this works:

Code:
Processor type and features --->
   Processor family (...)
      [*] EFI runtime service support
      [*]    EFI stub support
      [ ]      EFI mixed-mode support
      [*] Built-in kernel command line
(root=/dev/sda4) Built in kernel command string
[*] Built-in command line overrides boot loader arguments

Then you don't even need an EFI boot manager when putting the kernel in /boot/efi/boot/bootx64.efi
