Hello,

I'm having trouble reaching the graphical environment on the 1000H netbook.
The OS boots right up until X is about to kick in, after that all I see is a black screen with the mouse cursor which I can move around freely.
I tried to edit the /etc/conf.d/xdm file through Vim but I found out the US-en keymap is not the appropriate for this type of netbook as the [ESC] key did nothing.

I'm totally new to Gentoo, I've been[still am] using Arch for the last 5 years now.

Any help will be appreciated.

ragouel ... the 1000H has an intel graphics card, right? Try switching to a VT and then back ... CTRL+ALT+F1 CTRL+ALT+F7. BTW, if your reason for using the LiveDVD is so that you have a gui while installing then you might also try sysresccd.

I don't think the keymap is at issue, anyhow, nano should also be available as it's part of the base.

best ... khay

@khayyam he can boot with 'nox' to get just a terminal like minimalcds.
@ragouel there are some others having this issue with X not loading right away and soon we will release a maintaince release that should fix that. In the meantime you will just have to wait until KDE loads up which takes between a while or you can just boot with above 'nox' kernel option to skip the desktop.

likewhoa ... I was actually thinking the issue was due to the behavior of inteldrmfb in some 4.x series kernels ... I'd used the above (not with the LiveDVD) and switching back and forth between VT's would cause the x11 session to show.
