I'm following the gentoo handbook installation guide and after mounting partitions, when I try to use links to download the tarball stage, links hangs for a while and then reports a timeout. Pinging the tarball stage server works fine so I'm confused as to why links can't access the tarball stage server. I tried using curl and wget and they both hang. Any suggestions?

jjovanw,

Welcome to Gentoo.

All three ways should work.
Are you using ping with an IP address or a name?

If ping by IP works but ping by name does not, you are missing nameserver entries in /etc/resolv.conf.

Try
Code:
ping google.com
ping 216.58.213.78
The former needs your namserver.
