Hi everyone, so i'm having a bit of an issue with trying to install portage on my LFS system that i am building. I followed the installation guide over on
[https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Portage#Installation] When i try to sync emerge i get this error

" >>> Syncing repository 'gentoo' into '/usr/portage'...
!!! Command not found: rsync
!!! Type "emerge net-misc/rsync" to enable rsync support."

Then when i type that i get the following error.

!!! /etc/portage/make.profile is not a symlink and will probably prevent most merges.
!!! It should point into a profile within /usr/portage/profiles/
!!! (You can safely ignore this message when syncing. It's harmless.)

!!! Your current profile is invalid. If you have just changed your profile
!!! configuration, you should revert back to the previous configuration.
!!! Allowed actions are limited to --help, --info, --search, --sync, and
!!! --version.

Anytime i just type in "emerge" i also get the error listed right above. What's strange is when i type eselect list profile it just says "command not found" and i checked the directory /etc/portage and there was no make.profile there, its just empty. If anybody can help me with this i would greatly appriciate it. Thank You

what are you trying to do?

If you want Gentoo install Gentoo. if you want LFS install LFS. In any case, this is unsupported.

Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box.

For me its not about wanting either or, im trying to make my own Linux Distribution and i want to have portage as the official package mangement system. I know it can be done i have read about people doing it. Portage afaik isn't tied down to just gentoo. I would like to just install portage on my LFS system that im trying to build. Thanks for the quick response btw

Hi!

As you see, you need rsync.

But as said, you better has to take a look at Gentoo Prefix or download a stage 3.
