I tried to run hp-plugin to download the HP printer plugin but it gets killed like below.

Code:

vasudha ~ # hp-plugin

Plugin Download and Install Utility ver. 2.1

warning: It is not recommended to run 'hp-plugin' in a root mode.

I tried downloading the plugin .run file and using it instead and it gets killed too.

I tried running gentoo-sources instead of hardened-sources but found a segmentation fault there too.

Can someone help me out how to proceed further. Not able to get printing working on my Gentoo laptop due to this. This is a fresh hardened Gentoo installation.

right - which shows that PAX isn't the root cause, but your friend to catch segfaults before they do happen.

Just emerge hplip and hplip-plugin, then run hp-setup to add a printer (FWIW: I do use cups) - that's all.
