|(Update see below)
for some reason (or no reason?) my NAS is broken and I can't activate network. What I did: shutdown and reboot some days later.
Its a HP N36L. I used a lot of remote access to manage it so I didn't use USB and VGA a lot. OK after reboot I couldn't access this box so I attached monitor and keyboard. Keyboard did not work. After several hard reboots I pulled out the data disks and left only the system SSD. Last kernel I was using is 4.1.12. A bit old but worked except USB HID
I used GRML to have access to this system. USB and net works with GRML. I could reactivate Gentoo with an old kernel 3.10.17 which can use USB but not network.
dmesg gives ifo that tg3 driver is somehow attached to eth0. /etc/init.d/net.enp2s0 and (newly created) /etc/init.d/net.eth0 give both feedback that this interface does not exist. Is the naming correct? How do I figure out what to use here and is there anythin else to configure?
Any hints are welcome!
Best regards, Micha.
(PS: I also tried to compile the newes sources on this system, which is 4.4.6. But I could not configure that to a working state. It just won't mount the root partition. I'd like to bring up the network somehow and try to compile the newest stable kernel.)
I could get 4.4.6 to work. Now network is enp3s0 (Why??) and works. USB keyboard is usable. I still don't know what happened.
