Hello,

I bought a new laptop from lenovo, E570 with 256 NVMe PCI SSD and DVD drive with Nvidia 950M. Immediately, I fired up Systemrescue cd and install Gentoo as normal. I selected Attached SCSI drive option and USB 1,2, & 3.0 option. But my Gentoo does not let me mount ant USB devices at all. USB device does not show up on dolphin, if I run dmesg, it shows that /dev/sdb recognized but if I do 'mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt' I get 'Special device /dev/sdb1 does not exit.'

Could you please help me troubleshoot why it is not mounting automatically?

Thanks

Hello,
do you have CONFIG_USB_STORAGE=m (or y) in your kernel configuration? What do return

Code:
ls -l /dev/sd*

txykumat,

What partition tables does your kernel support?

As Logicien says, you need CONFIG_USB_STORAGE to be able to access the drives.
You also need CONFIG_MSDOS_PARTITION=y to read the partition tables on most USB storage devices.
CONFIG_MSDOS_FS is required to read FAT volumes.

EXFAT needs FUSE in the kernel and the user space exfat tools.

those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.
