Hello,

I am trying to install Gentoo for the first time, and I own a 4k Monitor from Asus, the PQ321QE and a Geforce 750Ti.
I installed the nvidia driver and got the Awesome Window Manager run with Gentoo,
but only in Single Stream Transport, what means a resolution from 3840x2160 @ 30 Hz, which I cant work with.
For 60 Hz I need Multi StreamTransport, that means that the monitor is acessed via the graphic card as
two Monitors, each with a resolution of 1920x2160.

If I set Multi Stream Transport in the settings from my monitor, I can not boot in the command line, with
Single Stream Transport, I can. With Multi Stream Transport, at the point where the login shell should appear,
the screen becomes black.

If I boot in recovery mode, it is the same.
If I add the kernel parameters nomodeset at the Gentoo Live DVD
to Grub, I can boot into the commandline. But if I try to boot my Gentoo installation with this kernel parameter, I can not
boot into the commandline.

Thanks for your help

just as i thought hdmi 2.0 is the key

Look through the pages of this forum - this topic has been discussed here many times and solutions have been given. 60FPS are supported if several conditions are met and several tweaks are configured.

HDMI 2.0 will add support for 4K at 60Hz. the reason why i bought a notebook which does not utilize the intel gpu "awesomenss" my 660m gtx supports hdmi 2.0 which supports ... 4k @ 60hz according to the datasheet

i do not own such expensive hardware. according to link 1, its possible with some requirements, which needs to be looked up in their forum.

Thank you for your answer.

My display uses Displayport 1.2 and with that it is possible for 4k@60Hz.

If I boot directly in the awesome window manager and not into the console,
I am now able to use 4k with 60 Hz.
