I am trying to install gentoo in a similar fashion to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Sakaki's_EFI_Install_Guide but seeing as I do not have an EFI system there are a few modifications, but other then that I do pretty much the same this (skipping all the windows bs though).
When trying to boot I get the following message

Decompressing Linux... Parsing ELF... done.
Booting the kernel...

Then it just sits there. Grub find both the initramfs and the kernel and I believe all its the settings are correct. I tried, unsuccessfully I might add, to boot it from the command line as well. I suppose that leaves either the initramfs or kernel at fault.
The initramfs was made by genkernel then extracted and statically compiled gpg v1.4 was copied in after which all was added to a cpio archive again. I told the kernel where this archive was when I compiled it.
I have now been stuck on this for days. Do any one know what the error might be or have a clue on how to proceed?

Hi!,

What do contain the initial /dev directory ?

Can you add at least /dev/null /dev/console? Then /dev will be mounted as devfs.

I also suggest you don't read that guide, but the official handbook, since that guide is specific for EFI.

I didnt use the script provided by Sakaki but did all that myself. The rest, well the idea more or less, is the same . What I wanted to say I did was put the boot partition on a USB drive and encrypt the system with a key file that was encrypted by gpg. Then the kernel compilation, creation of initramfs and installation of the bootloader was done reading the wiki.

So try to add /dev/console and /dev/null in your initramfs
You will then see the first boot messages

why do you need to manually add gpg in initramfs, when genkernel already does that?
