I am unable to install the kernel as I get the above message. Most solutions I've read in other threads is because of the flags. Mine are set to

CFLAGS="-march=native - 02 - pipe"

Any ideas what else can it be?

My apologies. It turns out I accidentally used "0" instead of "O" :D

Does anyone know by any chance what flags to use on a Intel 7700k cpu ?

Any info is greatly appreciated

If your cpu is supported -march=native detect automatically the correct flag
man gcc wrote:
-march=native causes the compiler to auto-detect the architecture of the build computer. At present, this feature is only supported on GNU/Linux, and not all architectures
are recognized. If the auto-detect is unsuccessful the option has no effect.

For test if your cpu are detected try with command
Code:
gcc -### -E - -march=native 2>&1 | sed -r '/cc1/!d;s/(")|(^.* - )//g'
