I just got done compiling the kernel and when I run:

Code:
root #find /lib/modules/<kernel version>/ -type f -iname '*.o' -or -iname '*.ko' | less

I get:

Code:
/lib/modules/vmlinuz-4.9.16/: no such file or directory

Also,

Code:
ls /lib/modules

I get
Code:
no such file or directory

I did compile modules in the kernel, so did I do something horribly wrong somewhere? I'm a total newb at this.

Thanks

Code:
make - builds kernel and modules
make modules - builds modules
make install - installs kernel image

Do you see anything in above you didn't want to happen?

I got it:

I initially ran:
Code:
ls lib/modules

instead of the correct:
Code:
 ls /lib/modules

So of course it didn't find anything.

So the correct kernel name is
Code:
4.9.16-gentoo

not
Code:
vm-linuz-4.9.16

making the correct call:
Code:
find /lib/modules/4.0.16-gentoo/ -type f -iname '*.o' -or -iname '*.ko' | less

so i now found the modules.

Sorry for my newbness
