Hi.

I'm trying to install gentoo on virtualbox using this guide: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Handbook:AMD64

Now I experience problems with mounting a separate /boot partition during the boot time.

Systemd can't mount it (waits for 90 seconds and puts me into the rescue shell). If I do the following commands:

Code:

# rm /etc/mtab
# cp /proc/self/mounts /etc/mtab
# mount /dev/sda1 /boot
# systemctl default

then the /boot partition is mounted and the booting resumes successfully.

But after that I experience problems with hostnamectl:

Code:

# hostnamectl set-hostname gentoo
Could not set property: Connection timed out
# hostnamectl set-hostname --static gentoo
Could not set property: Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.hostname1': timed out

Okay, the issue disappeared.

In the first part the reason was in the /etc/fstab: don't use `defaults` options.

In the second part this issue helped: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1656024

What should be used instead of defaults?

And why? I tried install gentoo with systemd with exactly same error and would consider to try once again. But on Fedora now I have:

Code:
UUID=e264d683-837d-4468-acc9-e252253dd126 /                       ext4    defaults        1 1
UUID=0E4C-9479          /boot/efi               vfat    umask=0077,shortname=winnt 0 2
UUID=45ca0a51-46a9-43cd-a4dc-9aed6873795d /home                   ext4    defaults        1 2
UUID=cb846356-bad4-478c-ada4-0e3c550a52af swap                    swap    defaults        0 0

Defaults everywhere, except for EFI
