PostPosted: Sat Jul 01, 2017 7:22 am    Post subject: systemd-logind fails and halts startup[solved] Reply with quote

this is a freshly installed gentoo system, I'm using systemd and the systemd-logind service always fails and the startup halts

I see the following in journalctl:
Code:
Jul 01 07:08:58 localhost systemd[1]: Failed to subscribe to NameOwnerChanged signal for 'org.freedesktop.login1': Connection timed ou
Jul 01 07:08:58 localhost systemd[1]: Failed to subscribe to activation signal: Connection timed out
Jul 01 07:08:58 localhost systemd[1]: Failed to register name: Connection timed out
Jul 01 07:08:58 localhost systemd[1]: Failed to set up API bus: Connection timed out
Jul 01 07:08:58 localhost systemd[1]: Starting Login Service...

But I have been unable to resolve this problem

here's the complete journal for my last boot:
https://pastebin.com/byZr2KAf

From your pastebin:
Quote:
Jul 01 07:08:33 localhost kernel: [drm] Loading CEDAR Microcode
Jul 01 07:08:33 localhost kernel: radeon 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for radeon/CEDAR_pfp.bin failed with error -2
Jul 01 07:08:33 localhost kernel: r600_cp: Failed to load firmware "radeon/CEDAR_pfp.bin"
Jul 01 07:08:33 localhost kernel: [drm:evergreen_init] *ERROR* Failed to load firmware!
Jul 01 07:08:33 localhost kernel: radeon 0000:01:00.0: Fatal error during GPU init

So some firmware is missing.

While fixing that check that CONFIG_CRYPTO_USER_API_HASH is set to y for your systemd API bus issue.

Cheers,

I've enabled CONFIG_CRYPTO_USER_API_HASH
and emerged linux-headers
I've also re-emerged systemd and added fanotify to the kernel

and it's still not working

Is sys-kernel/linux-firmware installed?

So how's it failing, the same? Did you fix the firmware issue? Some actual logs would be useful unless you want guesses.
Code:
dmesg -H | wgetpaste

is there anything useful in i.e.
Code:
cat /var/log/portage/elog/sys-apps:systemd-233<the version you last installed>.log

how about an
Code:
emerge --info

journal from last reboot:

firmware issues have been resolved

I can't post a dmesg -H as I'm unable to log on to that system.

Code:
here's the systemd notifications:

I have already enabled fanotify and I got the same result, I'm compiling the 2 other options now

Where have you set the systemd USE?
According to your emerge --info there is no systemd.

it was only set for the dbus package.
I have set the systemd use flag globally now, and I'm getting the same error :(

Adel Ahmed,
Is there a reason you didn't select a systemd profile? It would have saved you a lot of this grief.
5, 7, or 10 would have been appropriate from the below list.
Code:
ian@lw3 ~ $ eselect profile list
Available profile symlink targets:

Don't forget to run
Code:
emerge -DNuva @world
after switching profiles to get your system consistent.
