Im currently installing gentoo (or at least im trying to  ) on my main pc. I knew I'd need another linux distro since I heard somewhere that the live rescue didn't had the fat32 file system I needed to make the ESP

anyway I use kali to do it, simply because I had it on hand, and I start reading / following the handbook up to here, entering Chroot gives me the following output:

Code:
root@kali:/dev# chroot /mnt/gentoo/ /bin/bash
bash: /dev/null: Permission denied
kali / #

why? I tried looking that up but not much luck, I found this stack exchange post which I tried and well it didn't do anything. so im turning here next, hopefully there are some peeps here that can help me out :D

EDIT: I already checked /dev/null permissions: they are fine, so I have no bloody clue what is going on here.

(just guessing here, if your observations about your /dev/null permissions are indeed correct and don't have xattr issues) Kali is probably has some very restrictive grsec kernel that blocks access to special devices that aren't root homed. Might want to try some other boot cd? I recently downloaded and burned a SystemRescueCD and found it to be quite useful - no more need to keep around multiple images for x86, x86_64, uefi or not...

Please post the output of uname -a so we can check eccerr0r's idea, and the output of cat /proc/self/mountinfo so we can check your mount options.
