Does anyone have any idea when we might see an updated live dvd? The included kernel and firmware are starting to show their age considering they do not have drivers/modules for my systems. As far as I am aware the minimal cd still does not boot if you need efi bootable media.

As Jaglover as indicated, most people are installing Gentoo off of System Rescue CD. They provide a live CD .iso with a fully up-to-date environment, I believe the last updated CD was released on 27th August. If you go to the link Jaglover has provided and follow the install procedures (A works very easily if you're putting the ISO on a USB from Linux) then you will have the live environment you are seeking.

The main problem with SysRescueCd is that it does not provide verifiable releases, and that it looks like the developer simply doesn't want to add them.

Fortunately you can quite literally use any Live DVD you choose to install Gentoo as long as it provides chroot.

I'd tend to agree that invisible changes in the SRC simply isn't a major concern. It would be a lot of work for very little reward since it doesn't get installed on hardware. By design personal details are not going to be entered into the environment and scanning a hard drive for them and calling home with the information is not trivial. If I where going to put in the effort and try and hack something I'd target something like Vector or Scientific where there is a bigger payout.

Of course, if one where able to hack the SRC website to upload such a malicious modification then they could also simply change the sum anyway and many distros are still providing just an md5 to check for download corruption anyway.

Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box.
