As the title says, the upgrade to gentoo-sources-4.12.X left me without a usable USB keyboard. The system is stuck on asking me to enter my encryption password for the hard disks, which I am unable to do for want of a working keyboard. The NumLock LED is lit; pressing NumLock has no effect on it. Nor does the CapsLock LED light up when I press that key.

I've verified that I have all the required options detailed in https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Installation/Kernel#Activating_required_options set in the kernel config. The one thing I noticed is that on kernel-4.9 there was the UHCI option set (CONFIG_USB_UHCI_HCD=y); that option seems to have vanished in 4.12.

Questions: What am I missing, how do I debug this, how do I get my keyboard to work? Thanks!

Probably somthings missing in
Code:
     Location:
       -> Device Drivers
         -> HID support
           -> HID bus support (HID [=y])
             -> Special HID drivers
:?:
What keyboard you have?

EDIT: CONFIG_USB_UHCI_HCD is present in 4.12
Code:
$ grep USB_UHCI_HCD .config
CONFIG_USB_UHCI_HCD=y

Hard to say anything useful. Did you disable CONFIG_USB_PCI perhaps?

fedeliallalinea:
Microsoft Natural. Never needed to specify that before, though.

Not so much disable as never enable. Yes, that was it. I suppose I got confused by all the talk about embedded devices in the help text.

Thanks a lot!

EDIT:

fedeliallalinea: The UHCI option only appears if you enable CONFIG_USB_PCI first. I just checked, and it simply vanishes in menuconfig if you disable USB_PCI. Interesting.
