Greetings, I have the following Matrox vga chip:
Code:
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Electronics Systems Ltd.
Device 0536 (rev 04)
        Subsystem: Dell Device 0737

I'm trying to get fbcondecor on it, I saw the only support for it is in drm so I enabled the relevant key.
I've installed media-gfx/splashutils but it still doesn't loads the decorator.
does anyone has good experience with this chip which he can share?

Thanks.

Check out the last post in this thread, I think that this is the configuration you need, and then splashutils should work.

one problem, the chip is supported only in the drm driver, not in the framebuffer

That KMS driver should work. The other possibility is whether or not it supports vesa. If it does support vesa then you could probably just use one of them.

I think, the main problem is that fbcondecor needs v86d and uvesafb to work, uvesafb isn't the module to work with and v86d is not compatible with the matrox drm driver.

question is, how do I get around it if even?

You could try the older vesafb driver. It's not as nice though, it only supports 1024x768. Only the original vesa modes. But I still think your first option is to figure out how to get that KMS driver configured. I think uvesafb is better option than vesafb is, but if you can't get it to work then vesafb may be your last resort.

EDIT: Heres some info on how to configure vesafb (when he says intel, he means x86)
