I've been thinking lately that i need to upgrade my machine. I had the W510 i7 16GB & unfortunately dropped beer on it (tried everything to get it working again, no luck....), had to move back to my old T510 i5 8GB....... which I've now been using for a year now...... and to be honest it's well out of date. Even my W510 was getting on as well.....
This has made life very difficult (almost impossible) seeing as i generally have multiple VM's or Labs running in virtualbox/vmware on my laptop.... aahhhh so much fun
I'm now looking at the Lenovo ThinkPad P51 - 15.6" - Xeon E3-1505MV6 - 16 GB RAM (upgrade to 64GB) - 512 GB SSD Model: 20HH000UUS as an upgrade. Have to admit it's a little on the expensive side and I'm not very fond of the singular SSD slot, would prefer if there was a HDD caddy/dvd bay. However the processor & memory requirements are through the roof when it comes to a laptop
Also looking at 20HH000CUS, screen resolution is great.
This new machine should last a good 7+ years, from a functional perspective, fingers crossed, and especially for the price 2000+
Before I make the final discussion on whether to get this machine, just wanted to ask and see if anyone else has built Gentoo on this laptop and if so, how did the kernel/system build go? Personally don't think there will be any problems, but better to be safe than sorry....
