i am trying to install Gentoo on my t61 which according to everything ive looked at should support x86-64 in the menuconfig ive tried generic and core2 or newer and they also didn't work tryd googling the error and i couldn't find anything not sure what to do
the cpu is Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7300 @ 2.00GHz

the error im getting:

What stage3 did you download and what CPU type you chose in kernel configuration.

amd64 stage 3 and i've tried both the core 2 duo setting and generic x86-64

I've never had this error myself, thus I'm just guessing. Did you boot from a 64 bit Linux CD/DVD?

and the the image i used was livedvd-x86-amd64-32ul-20160704

You are running i686 kernel, it is 32 bit. You need to boot with 64 bit kernel for 64 bit install.
