Hi I'm Hidetatsu.
I'm very new to Gentoo.
I configured my kernel using `genkernel all` .
And I need to use docker, so I referenced wiki.

It says, I need to config kernel for Docker. So I must re-config my kernel.

Here is I did.

Code:

cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig
# I configured kernel with wiki
make && make menuconfig
make install
reboot

After this, my driver for wifi got not to recognize my wifi.
I think it broke when I configured kernel.

I want to know, What is the correct way to re-configure kernel not affecting existing kernel ?
Or, I must know all config for future use at first config time?

Please tell me how you re-config your kernel when package that you want to emerge needs to config kernel.
Thanks.

How about:

Code:

# make menuconfig // Add your kernel options for docker
# make modules_prepare
# make && make modules_install // backup your old kernel, initramfs(if you use one) and system map
# make install

Then if you use initramfs make sure you generate another and if you use grub, run grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg. At least that is what I normally do.

Best Regards

** edit: left ‘s’ out of modules_prepare **

If you want to use genkernel run "genkernel --menuconfig all"

Hi thanks guys.
I could fix it for myself.
I modprobed my wifi module.

Code:

# make menuconfig // Add your kernel options for docker
# make modules_prepare
# make && make modules_install // backup your old kernel, initramfs(if you use one) and system map
# make install

This looks very good to me!
Very thanks.
