Hello.
I was trying to install gentoo "amd64", using gentoo "amd64" minimal cd, release "20171228T214501Z".
Text editor "nano" is missing on this cd: says "command not found".
"man" page of "nano" is missing too.

you mean minimal cd is minimal?
or do you mean, minimal cd doesn't provide any text editors?

I mean, i am following official gentoo handbook for gentoo installation, architecture amd64.
Documentation tells to use text editor "nano" for a step, which is neccessary for installation.
When tried to do that step, using command nano, i got "command not found", which means, "nano" text editor is missing on minimal amd64 cd.
Probably, it is a bug, but in that case, either cd should be to be updated to include "nano", or handbook (documentation), to use another text editor.

If nano is missing, try to emerge it!

emerge nano

Irre,

There is no emerge on the minimal ISO. emerge comes with the stage3, so you need to be in the chroot.

I totally agree with octone2017, either nano should be included or the installation manual should be updated ( https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Installation/Stage#Configuring_compile_options )

A workaround (assuming libraries are compatible) at that spot (after unpacking stage3) is to use /mnt/gentoo/bin/nano
(another alternative is, as mentioned, to chroot first).

It's a bug; a fix is in the works. Meanwhile, if you must stick with the current minimal install CD, there's busybox vi. If you need one, there are a plethora of vi cheat sheets a mere Google search away.

I have lived long and ever since pico (pre-nano) I hated vi
I think I would wait for a fix

I am studying in order to make an installation but I am cautious as with a tired machine I have heard it takes a long while. One time I decided to compile my own kernel from source it took about a day.

I had a chat with Release Engineering. It was the intentional addition of zile that made nano unintentionally eligible for --depclean. So you can use zile (emacs work-alike), too.

But the bug referenced above has been fixed for two weeks now. The current autobuilds of the minimal install CD again contain the beloved nano. :)

I expect so as it's after the date shown in the bug.

What's wrong with:

Code:

root: cat <<EOF > /mnt/gentoo/etc/portage/make.conf

# or

root: cat > /mnt/gentoo/etc/portage/make.conf << "EOF"
