I'm using Xfce4. When I shutdown the computer the screen get blanc, no
text is scrolling showing which services are going down. As if somebody pull the plug on the monitor.

Though I don't think it has anything to do with Xfce4.

It might be something to do with the new (installation) is using GRUB2 and previous installation was using grub-0.97 ver.

At boot, do you see text scrolling regarding service which are going up? Or only at shutdown you don't see text scrolling?

Do you have systemd.show_status=1 in your kernel command line?

I'm using nvidia-drivers-304.137 (NVIDIA G84 [GeForce 8600 GTS])

Yes, when I boot I see the text on the screen scrolling by, only when I shut down the screen goes instantly blank.

cat /boot/grub/grub.cfg |grep systemd (is not showing anything) so I don't think there is "systemd.show_status=1"

This box upon shutdown was showing text scrolling by upon shutdown normally in previous installation. But my HD failed so I replace the HD and reinstall Gentoo using this time GRUB2

I think it might have to do something with XFCE4 setup after all or the environment.
When I ssh to the box from remote computer and issue:
shutdown -h -P +1 & I see text scrolling by when going down.
If I click on "Shut Down" from XFCE4 desktop menu screen goes instantly blank.
