Probably a simple solution, but I'm stumped. I'm a long-time Gentoo nerd, doing a fresh install after a long flirtation with Arch.

I've got a second disk that I want to mount automatically in fstab, but it's being ignored. I don't see any error messages, and I can easily mount it as root.

Here are the relevant /etc/fstab entries:
Code:
/dev/sda1               /               ext4            noauto,noatime  0 1
/dev/sda2               none            swap            sw              0 0
/dev/sdb1               /data           ext4            noauto,noatime  0 2

sda1 mounts properly as my root drive, and sda2 is working as my swap drive. I can manually mount sdb1 by typing (as root) "#mount /data", which means the fstab file is readable and doesn't have an (obvious) typo.

dmesg doesn't give much help either. No obvious errors

Code:
#dmesg | grep sd

Anybody have a suggestion?

noauto stands for no mounting from fstab. So everything is behaving exactly as it is set up, not how you want it. :P

Doh!

You were exactly correct, Jaglover. Obviously Gentoo is defective because it does what it is told, not what I want it to do <grin>

Removing the "noauto" parameter fixed the problem.

Thanks!
