I am curious if someone with a multiboot system could weigh in on this, since I'm not sure if the problem with a new linux installation of another OS (debian) on my laptop is causing some problems with the boot process. I can't tell if it is somehow due to the bootloader or not, but I don't think it is, since using Grub I am able to locate the kernel and then boot from the command shell for grub.

What seems to be occurring though once booting, is the boot hangs spitting out some message about a failed attempt to mount root filesystem (or without a filesystem, something like that.)

I have no idea what is meant by that, I have mounted the partition, which has a ext2 filesystem and I can't thinki of any reasons why the operating system is not booting...albeit a different distribution than the gentoo linux that is my other linux installation on the same laptop. Could this have anything to do with the bootloader maybe?

Nevermind...

Fixed this by using grub-mkinstall from the existing Gentoo operating system and since I had copied the files into the /boot folder previously so everything went as planned and I can now access the separate systems. Marking as solved
