If you're trying to mount a digital camera via USB to transfer photos to your computer, use gphoto2. Add
Code:

CAMERAS="*"

to make.conf, then:
Code:

emerge gphoto2

Then you can read the man page, but TL;DR gphoto2 --get-all-files will download from your camera to the current dir.

Monsterherz77,

Older cameras have two modes to connect over USB. You choose in a menu on the camera.

USB Storage. This forces you to unmount the storage from the camera, since having the filesystem mounted in two places is bad for the filesystem.
Mostly because the metadata is cached and there is no easy way to keep the caches in sync.

Then there is Picture Transport Protocol (PTP). You don't mount the filesystem on the PC. The camera shares it.
As audiodef says, gphoto is one of the tools for this. The down side is that every vendor implements PTP differently, so be sure to include the driver your your camera.

Newer still is Media Transfer Protocol. (MTP). To use this, if its supported by your camera, see the MTP pages on the Wiki.
