Hello Comunity,

I don't know what happens with my laptop (Dell XPS 15 LX501X)--fixed--; It have 3 usb ports, but only in one is possible external usb hard disks mount.

Did someone have a similar experience? Any help is appreciated.

Here is my kernel config: [url] https://pastebin.com/ANmA8cLd [\url]

Thanks in advance.

Yczo,

Can you post the output of lspci too please?
Your kernel has USB2 and USB3 drivers, which should be enough, unless you have a rare USB root hub.

The output of dmesg, in the non working case may be useful too.

I went online looking for dell xps 15 lx501 manual. Didn't find it, but found the user manual for Dell XPS 15 LX501X. It states clearly one port has increased power capacity. Perhaps dell xps 15 lx501 has similar hardware. So maybe - I say maybe because no relevant information was provided - our OP is using a USB powered hard drive and maybe there is a power issue. Maybe if OP looked at dmesg there would be more clues what's going on. As you see it all is mostly maybe ... my crystal ball is out of order again.

From memory, thats a bus powered USB HDD. There is no separate power cable, is that right?

Are you using a USB Y-cable to draw power from two USB root hubs?

Bus powered HDD are often marginal as they need so much power.

Yczo,

Please make two pastebins of
Code:
lsusb -vvv

One with the HDD working
One with the HDD not working.

I want to look at the power requirements ot the different arrangements of USB devices.
