I booted latest Kubuntu live cd and wallah:
1. Function keys for screen brightness just work
2. LED lights up when using mute function key
3. KDE makes sounds when changing volume with function keys
4. No random popping noises from speakers <---big issue

I could not find kernel config within Kubuntus /proc/config.gz so I just did lsmod and I have to go by off of that. If I cannot get hardware to work equivilent to Kubuntu then I think its time to distro hop for me. I need is a some guidance for getting my krenel config matching Kubuntus config and there might be something else which needs attention which I don't know about.

Posting my current config and Kubuntus lsmod.

I installed gentoo more than 4 times on different hardware and used it for many years. I am hoping I don't end up distro hoping but I will if I cannot get these things ironed out.

1. works in MATE.
2. my laptop doesn't have one of those, couldn't say either way.
3. works in MATE. 8)
4. best guess, alsa power management, if you're using hda_intel, try using the power_save=0 option. unless pulseaudio is doing something funky... i can't be bothered to drink the pottering koolaid.

I prefer KDE and powermanagment kinda important for laptops... I haven't anything pulse audio in this setup. I figured out issue 3 its no longer on the list.
