I do wonder about a syslog entry at my server (hardened stable Gentoo with latest stable vanilla kernel) :
Code:
Mar 25 11:02:02 mr-fox acpid[1552]: inotify_add_watch() failed: No such file or directory (2)
Any hints ?

I think I've seen this too, can't remember where though.

:evil:
Such unhelpful error messages are pain.
Try pass --debug for the acpid and see if you get more out of the error message...

Also man page lists these locations/files
  • /proc/acpi/event
  • /etc/acpi/
  • /var/run/acpid.socket
  • /var/run/acpid.pid
  • /var/lock/acpid
... maybe one of those isn't accessible?

i'm lacking myself /proc/acpid/event while the manual state it watch it to get when an event is triggered, and i suppose a good way to watch it would be with inotify

Good hint, got this:
Code:
# /etc/init.d/acpid restart
 * Caching service dependencies ...                                                                       [ ok ]
 * Stopping acpid ...                                                                                     [ ok ]
 * Starting acpid ...
Deprecated /proc/acpi/event was not found.  Trying netlink and the input layer...
acpid: cannot open input layer
inotify fd: 4
acpid: inotify_add_watch() failed: No such file or directory (2)
netlink opened successfully
acpid: starting up with netlink and the input layer
parsing conf file /etc/acpi/events/default
acpid: 1 rule loaded
acpid: waiting for events: event logging is off
