Have a Lenovo Y520 Optimus laptop. Trying to set it up to use only the integrated Intel graphics. make.conf has VIDEO_CARDS="intel", emerge -uDN world done, kernel config checked to make sure no nvidia options selected.

But:
Code:

audiodef@localhost ~ $ lsmod | grep nvidia
nvidia_drm             40960  0
nvidia_modeset        790528  1 nvidia_drm
nvidia              11517952  1 nvidia_modeset
drm_kms_helper        151552  2 i915,nvidia_drm
drm                   360448  6 i915,nvidia_drm,drm_kms_helper
i2c_core               65536  7 i2c_algo_bit,nvidia,igb,videodev,i915,drm_kms_helper,drm

nvidia-drivers was installed, but they aren't any more.

Even tried
Code:

blacklist nvidia

in /etc/conf.d/modules, and this still happens.

eselect opengl list shows only xorg-x11.

The driver I want is present:
Code:

audiodef@localhost ~ $ lsmod | grep i915
i915                 1232896  4
drm_kms_helper        151552  2 i915,nvidia_drm
drm                   360448  6 i915,nvidia_drm,drm_kms_helper
video                  40960  1 i915
i2c_algo_bit           16384  2 igb,i915
i2c_core               65536  7 i2c_algo_bit,nvidia,igb,videodev,i915,drm_kms_helper,drm

How do I get the nvidia driver to go away?

You do realize unmerging nVidia package won't wipe away already installed kernel modules? You need to dive into /lib/modules/<vesrsion>/ with rm command to get rid of them.

I didn't know that. I figured since nvidia-drivers is a pkg managed by Portage, that emerge -C or --depclean would rm relevant files. I guess that doesn't apply to kernel stuff.

Solved module loading by using /etc/modules.d/blacklist.conf and listing ALL nvidia modules.

Technically speaking, kernel modules are not part of package, modules are built using the package, but not part of it. Applies to all modules you may build using emerge @module-rebuild.
