I am part way through an install of gentoo with systemd. I followed a mix of the handbook, and the sytemd wiki to get to where I am. When I try to boot, I see a wall of text, which is too fast to read, but I do see the [OK] boxes as they go passed. However, when I would expect the terminal to appear, the screen just goes blank.

I am on a system with both Ubuntu and Windows 10 installed alongside the gentoo partitions. I used the gentoo live media for the initial setup, but have swapped to chrooting with Ubuntu since then. Since this issue is apparently sometimes caused by the nvidia drivers, I will mention that I have a nvidia 1050Ti installed, with dual monitors (I have tried booting plugged into the MB and with only one screen).

I have the logs available via journalctl, but I'm not sure how to post them here. Here is the end of the log from my last reboot:

Note: Apparently the tty is getting started, but not appearing?

Edit: I'm using nouveau, rather than the actual nvidia drivers.

These seem to be the worrysome parts:
logs wrote:
Code:

Mar 29 23:56:00 localhost kernel: nouveau: probe of 0000:01:00.0 failed with error -12
Mar 29 23:56:01 localhost kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: fb0: inteldrmfb frame buffer device

So the onboard GPU doesn't work?
Where are your monitors plugged? Seems like the onboard should do something (at least give you a blinking cursor) but the nvidia outputs may remain blank. You might have to go with a newer kernel or use the proprietary driver...

That seems to have been the issue. Set the BIOS to use the integrated graphics during boot, swapped a monitor over, and that seams to have solved it. I guess that to use the GPU, I will need to install the actual nvidia driver.

Thankyou for the reply. I will post the results with the nvidia driver for the sake of anyone else that comes across this problem.
