Hi all,
Gentoo newbi here.

I am trying to make KDE plasma work on gentoo installation.

KDE requires "systemd".

For grub configuration : "kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda2 init=/lib/systemd/systemd"

There is no "/lib/systemd/systemd" on my installation.

If I try : "emerge sys-apps/systemd"

I get :

Code:

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

sys-apps/dbus:0

I even tried :

emerge --ask --oneshot =sys-apps/dbus-1.12.6

But got same results.

Can someone please help ?

Hi maverick9888,

KDE Plasma does _NOT_ require systemd.
I am using successfully openrc with elogind on uefi laptop, without grub, efibootmgr only.

The problem is, if I start kde with :

/etc/init.d/xdm start

I see the login screen, but after entering password, nothing happens.
I don't get to the desktop at all.

If you are using sddm, as plasma's wiki is saying there should be something in log ~/.local/share/sddm/xorg-session.log.

This should give us a clue where to look for problems.

I am using Nvidia drivers.

cat /var/lib/sddm/.local/share/sddm/xorg-session.log

Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0".

Plese, could you wgetpaste whole xorg-session.log, /var/log/sddm.log, /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and the output from dmesg?

I missed some of the steps in : https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/NVidia/nvidia-drivers

It worked after doing those steps.

@PrSo
