Because of UEFI unsigned commercial bootloader use, UEFI bios laptop does only legacy MBR boot.
Code:
emerge -p grub:2

These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

Calculating dependencies  ... done!
[ebuild  N     ] sys-boot/grub-2.02-r1  USE="-debug -device-mapper -doc -efiemu -fonts -libzfs -mount -multislot -nls -sdl -static {-test} -themes -truetype" GRUB_PLATFORMS="-coreboot -efi-32 efi-64 -emu -ieee1275 -loongson -multiboot pc -qemu -qemu-mips -uboot -xen -xen-32"
[ebuild  N     ]  sys-boot/efibootmgr-15
[ebuild  N     ]   sys-libs/efivar-31
[ebuild  N     ]   sys-apps/pciutils-3.4.1  USE="-dns -kmod -static-libs -udev -zlib" ABI_X86="-32 (64) (-x32)"

Is it possible 2 get rid of "efi-64" configuration setting, which seems irrelevant, AFAIU.

Thks 4 ur attention.

GRUB_PLATFORMS is a use expand, you can remove adding in make.conf GRUB_PLATFORMS="pc" or remove it only to grub package using package.use (-grub_platforms_efi-64)

EDIT: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki//etc/portage/make.conf#USE_EXPAND
