I currenty have kernel 4.9.95-gentoo. During a recent @world update gentoo sources was updated. When using "eselect kernel list" I see the new update is 4.14.52-gentoo. Does this not mean it is an older version than 4.9.95 which I am currently running? should I ignore this update or is there a good reason to downgrade to 4.14.52?

Or maybe I am reading 4.9.95 wrong as 4.90.95 when it is actually 4.09.95 which would make 4.14.52 a newer version after all?

I hope you can help me clear this up; thank you for your time.

Kernls numbering are w.xx.yy and we can say:
  • w : kernel version = 4
  • xx: major revision = 14
  • yy: minor revision = 52

then 4.14.52 > 4.9.95
