I have followed the instructions at the wiki but now
run into a problem: multiple microcode bundles

here is the output of sudo iucode_tool -S -l /lib/firmware/intel-ucode/*

Code:
iucode_tool: system has processor(s) with signature 0x000406e3
microcode bundle 1: /lib/firmware/intel-ucode/06-4e-01
microcode bundle 2: /lib/firmware/intel-ucode/06-4e-02
microcode bundle 3: /lib/firmware/intel-ucode/06-4e-03
microcode bundle 4: /lib/firmware/intel-ucode/06-4e-08
selected microcodes:
  001/001: sig 0x000406e1, pf_mask 0xf2, 2014-08-06, rev 0x0016, size 80896
  001/002: sig 0x000406e1, pf_mask 0x80, 2014-11-11, rev 0x0020, size 81920
  002/001: sig 0x000406e2, pf_mask 0xf2, 2014-11-05, rev 0x000a, size 79872
  002/002: sig 0x000406e2, pf_mask 0xc0, 2015-05-21, rev 0x002c, size 86016
  003/001: sig 0x000406e3, pf_mask 0xc0, 2018-04-17, rev 0x00c6, size 99328
  004/001: sig 0x000406e8, pf_mask 0x80, 2016-04-14, rev 0x0026, size 95232

so, which location goes into my kernel config? all of them? Help appreciated.

if the firmware dir is set as /lib/firmware then you only need to add "intel-ucode/06-4e-03".

fwiw, my kabylake cpus do a similar thing. easiest way to pick the right one is to get the 0x-whatever signature string at the top, find it in the bottom, look for the number at the far left, then look to the list in the middle. that's the one you want. a little messed up, i know.

I think
Quote:
iucode_tool: system has processor(s) with signature 0x000406e3

so is
Quote:
003/001: sig 0x000406e3, pf_mask 0xc0, 2018-04-17, rev 0x00c6, size 99328

which is:
Quote:
microcode bundle 3: /lib/firmware/intel-ucode/06-4e-03

but i am not sure about it...

oops sorry "bunder" is faster

Yes, that's the way you locate the right firmware file for your CPU
