|I have an IBM 7979 populated with fans, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to use pwmconfig to change the rpm of these fans.
There is no fan speed options in the bios.
When I run sensors-detect it finds a few modules (aem-isa, coretemp, i5k-amb, ibmpex-isa, i2c-i801) which I added to the kernel and that's all fine. But it also lists PC87427 as a IO fan controller, EXCEPT sensors-detect states "Found PC87427 but is not activated" or along those lines. I have added support for this sensor to my kernel but no luck.
From my research it seems the cause of this is due to the bios not initializing this sensor.
Running pwmconfig results in a default "No pwm configurable fans found" type error and I think this is due to the PC87427 sensor not being activated. Even running system rescue cd yielded no results so I don't think it is a kernel issue.
Is there any hope for controlling these fans to quiet them down a bit? I can't find them under /proc/acpi either (although I don't know if I added proper ACPI support the the kernel since its depriciated).
Any tips or hints I could follow to try to get these fans to quiet down?
