Coming back to Gentoo after a few years away. Decided to install in VirtualBox on my Arch system. Not clear on whether to use the UEFI options or MBR in Grub. Main system is UEFI. Can't find much in the docs on running within VirtualBox.

Your virtual machine must be configure for the mode you want to use Bios and/or Efi. If you want to boot in Efi mode be sure to have activate the appropriate options for Efi in the Linux kernel. Same thing for Bios mode.

For simplicity you use Dos partitions table in Bios mode and Gpt partitions table in Efi mode with an Efi partition in Fat. I think you are better in Efi mode. All is coming in this mode now and it have advantages over the Bios mode. Your host boot mode do not matter in a virtual machine.

I've used both UEFI and legacy BIOS on Virtualbox and unless there is a specific need that you know you have, I don't think it's worth the extra steps.

On the other hand, once it is set up,it's done, so whatever floats your boat.

I don't know if i'm doing something wrong, but VirtualBox sometimes forgets boot option in UEFI mode and i have to run bootloader from EFI shell and run grub-install (or efibootmgr...) again after boot. Haven't seen anything similar in legacy mode.
