Hello.
Why is the kernel only support I915?
I do not understand in one moment.
There is an i7-8700 processor, I use an integrated video card on my computer.
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Intel
According to the table, I see that I have an intel i965 video card, but in the core only intel i915
Code:
# egrep "I915" /usr/src/linux/.config
CONFIG_DRM_I915=y
CONFIG_DRM_I915_ALPHA_SUPPORT=y
CONFIG_DRM_I915_CAPTURE_ERROR=y
CONFIG_DRM_I915_COMPRESS_ERROR=y
CONFIG_DRM_I915_USERPTR=y
# CONFIG_DRM_I915_GVT is not set
CONFIG_SND_HDA_I915=y

Code:
# uname -rms
Linux 4.14.78-gentoo x86_64

Code:
# lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Device 3ec2 (rev 07)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Device 3e92

03:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. Device 2142
04:00.0 Non-Volatile memory controller: Intel Corporation Device f1a6 (rev 03)

Xorg ripened with support i965
Code:
[ebuild   R    ] x11-base/xorg-drivers-1.20::gentoo  INPUT_DEVICES="evdev keyboard mouse -elographics -joystick -libinput -synaptics (-tslib) -vmmouse -void -wacom" VIDEO_CARDS="i965 intel -amdgpu -ast -dummy -fbdev (-freedreno) (-geode) -glint -i915 -mga -nouveau -nv -nvidia (-omap) -qxl -r128 -radeon -radeonsi -siliconmotion (-tdfx) (-tegra) (-vc4) -vesa -via -virtualbox -vmware (-voodoo)" 0 KiB

Am I using the old kernel?

i915 is the correct module. it supports both i915 and i965.

Is it possible to use I965?

Yes, but the kernel must be recent.

Well, I'll wait for the latest release of the kernel with i965 support.
Will I have to reconfigure the kernel again, or can I use the old .config?

You could read Wiki article: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Kernel/Upgrade

Note: the article recommends make olddefconfig. Bad idea! Another proof all Wiki articles should be taken with a grain of salt. Once you already spent all the time and built your own custom kernel you do not want any options turned to their default values. Use make oldconfig instead to keep your kernel configuration under your control.

BTW, there is kernel 19.2 in portage, no need to wait for anything.

I only see one driver, and that's i915... https://i.imgur.com/XrzicNW.png

Correct, but older kernel i915 driver may not support newer chipsets.

I had a similar problem in this thread:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1085452-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-xorg-start-25.html

I got it to work using the 4.18 kernel but that was before 19 came out. The numbering is a little confusing, the i915 driver includes support for i965. There is no i965 only driver.
